The Pharisee’s Guide to Self Diagnosis: There is a terrible disease gripping the entire Christian worlds called MDP=Modern Day Pharisees’. It is not a new disease and today we will look at the first recorded instances of it. If you suffer from 4 or more of these symptoms, well to be honest if you suffer from even 1 of these, run don’t walk, run to the Great Physician and He will heal your from your malady, just as I pray He heals me from mine. God help us ALL as He examines us! Below follows a list of the symptoms. It’s not an exhaustive list, but it’s a start. Maybe the Great Doctor will show us even more symptoms after prescribing the eye-salve for us. Pride, wanting status to be recognized and wanting to be acknowledged by your position or title “Rabbi, Rabbi” (Matthew 23:4-7) Evangelizing but in the process, making the convert even worse than before. (Matthew 23:15) Only accepting the teacher if the leaders accept him. (John 7:47,48) Acknowledging sin not to save the sinner, but to condemn them. (John 8:3) Having the power to remove from membership/fellowship. (John 12:42) Majoring in minors and ignoring love, judgment, faith, and mercy. (Matthew 23:23) Counseling with others against the bearer of truth. (Matthew 2:15) People think you’re a true Christian based on your outward appearance but your thoughts, motives are sinful. (Matthew 23:27,28) Asking questions not for enlightenment, but for debate or to trip someone in order to find something gainsay about the truth they teach. (Mark 12:13) Being jealous when someone is being praised. (Luke 19:39) Hypocrisy-claiming to believe the truth but not living according to it. (Matthew 5:20) Preferring to make decisions, chose lifestyle standards etc based on what human devised tradition dictates rather than based everything on what God’s inspired messengers have recorded. (Matthew 15:1-8) Being approachable to, and listening to negative reports about God’s messenger. (John 11:45, 56) Rejecting what the prophet(s) say. (Luke 7:29-34) Comparing oneself to others who have less light and therefore thinking you’re “ok” when in actual fact if you compared yourself to God, you’d see how far you still have to go (in HIS strength) before being like Him. (Luke 18:10-14) Because of hating the message that rebukes you, you vilify and attack or assassinate the character of the messenger. (Matthew 21:45-47) What is the remedy? Read Isaiah 55 and 1 Corinthians 13. And allow the Lord to cleanse us from all our evil ways. “Psalms 51:2 Wash me thoroughly from mine iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin.”
