The Pretentious The pretentious Christian, like the pretentious scribe prays wrong prayers. At the heart of right praying is a right heart. The pretentious are self important, they dress the part, they look and sound important. They want to stand out in the crowd and bring attention to themselves. They like respect, honor and favors. They are greedy, if not with their money, with God’s money. They take advantage of those who trust them. I have been given amazing opportunities by God to observe this world of pretentiousness and even be tempted by it. In my career i have been Business Manager of a large Seminary. Recipient of honors, and recognition. Leading in a high position in a a state denomination office. Serving as a policy advisor for a Governor. A published author, and co-founder of two non-profits. Currently, I am unemployed and living in an RV with full assurance that I am right where God wants me. I have seen pretentiousness. I have participated in pretentiousness. Pretentious prayers die on the lips of the one who prays as they seek the praise of men. “And whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted.” Matthew 23:12 Right praying gives God the honor due Him, and recognizes that He alone is worthy of praise.
