The Programme The Aukati KaiPaipa programme is unique in that it is a kanohi ki te kanohi (face-to-face) service. The professional quit coaches develop a personalised programme to meet the individual needs. COST -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- There is no cost for this programme. THE PROGRAMME INVOLVES: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Assessment - Coaches identify the clients readiness to quit and give out information on the programme. Reduction plan - Coaches identify and give coping skills for smoking triggers and encourage cigarette reduction to become smokefree. Intensive programme - In this stage clients have actively become smokefree. To help with nicotine urges NRT (patches, gum and/or lozenges) is supplied to make the smokefree transition easier and with the support of a quit coach, clients should be able to maintain their smokefree lifestyles. Client follow-ups - This can be done by phone or by personal visit. The follow-ups are just a catch up with clients; whether it is helping them with relapses or just encouraging them to keep up the good work. ITS A LIFESTYLE CHANGE -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- To quit smoking, clients are making a lifestyle change. This is when clients begin to assess themselves – how committed they are to giving up cigarettes. Most clients may feel consumed by the thought of not smoking but the quit coach can help support them through the smokefree transisition with the kanohi ki te kanohi meetings and support. Clients may even feel a physical withdrawal; this is when the nicotine levels in your bodies are low. The quit coaches can help ease the nicotine urges and feelings by administering NRT (patches, gum and/or lozenges). Breaking the psychological behaviour that is associated with smoking will be ongoing. The coach’s aim is to give the client the skills to manage their behaviour with smoking.
