The Prophet (ṣallallāhu ‘alayhi wa sallam) said, Whoever deceives us, is not from us. The impact of this hadith of only a few words in virtually every aspect of our lives is unbelievable, whether from business dealings, to personal relations, to communication, to facing the enemy, to politics, to basically everything. Its application every single day at every moment is simply mind-blowing and indeed scary. I can think of easily ten scenarios off the top of my head where this has been in play this week involving others and *myself* (yes, myself, people either dealing with me or relating to me or speaking to me or being described to me in a question where youd expect the average bear to be just that bit more careful) so what then between normal friends and family who just carry on like its something simple? If theres any hesitation in your heart concerning anything, then HESITATE. Theres no rush, and life is not about taking that kind of risk. This is your fitrah warning you. Heed it and stay safe.
