The Purple Movement would like to extend an invitation to all - TopicsExpress

The Purple Movement would like to extend an invitation to all members of the community of San Ignacio and Santa Elena, to join us at our Candle Light Walk/Vigil on Wednesday October 2nd 2013 at 6pm on location at the Welcome Center. This vigil is in remembrance of Suzenne "Purple" Martinez who was murdered heartlessly one year ago. It is also our intention to make it a solemn evening dedicated in remembrance and honour for other murder victims (special mention Jasmine Lowe) along with all other families who are suffering silently due to criminal injustices. Let us resurrect the spirit of activism that was displayed a year ago, it was a sea of purple that touched the hearts of Belizeans everywhere. The stories of the random victims in our community may have been different, but our pain and cry for justice were all the same. Even today, San Ignacio and Santa Elena remains a model community. The unrelenting support of the "people power" was what was called the "THE PURPLE MOVEMENT" not a small group of persons but every family and every citizen who stood in solidarity. It was a powerful message that reflected our pain, our suffering, our indignation, but most importantly our right to justice. There is a dire need to continue to focus on what we can do individually for our community. We need to fearlessly take on leadership with plans to act cohesively to make positive changes. Let us not bear this onus of "change" on anyone but ourselves. Let us rather ask ourselves "What are we individually doing to make a change? " Let this be evening when we all unite, irrespective of creed, religious and political differences in a united struggle for justice in our democracy. We ask that everyone who attends bring their own candles and also wear purple and/or purple ribbon in solidarity of the cause. Feel free to bring along banners of your organization or any other memorabilia from other murder victims of criminal injustice. The Candle Walk will be start in front of the Welcome center, down to Hudson Street, across the Hawksworth Bridge, divert in front of the Social Security Building, onto George Price Avenue, across the lower line bridge and back to the Welcome Center. Special Invitation to the following groups: Galen University and The Galen Eagles Band Sacred Heart Junior College Rotaract San Ignacio The Bishop Martin Neighborhood Watch The Jaguar Scouts of Santa Elena In Bloom Band San Ignacio and Santa Elena Town Council Please feel free to pass on the word in the community and forward this message to others. If any of the groups mentioned or any other individual would like to make a presentation or any other special dedications feel free to contact me via facebook or contact me at 650-0611 With light and love on behalf of THE PURPLE MOVEMENT, Catherine Garnett Public Relations Director
