The Rams hosted Class C rival, The Winchendon School, this past Wednesday in their regular season home opener. It had been five years since the Rams had defeated the Winch, so the young Rams were ready to start a new trend. The first half started with both teams trying to grab a hold of the game. This battle continued until junior Tyler Hatch broke the deadlock to add his third goal in the opening 3 games. As the first half was coming to a close, it became obvious that the Rams had a chance to take control of the game as they saw numerous opportunities arise from some great team play. At the half, the Rams held a 1-0 lead and came into the huddle with their spirits up knowing that the game was theirs to take over. This resulted in a second half that was all Rams. Defensive shape was the focus of the game for the Rams and it showed as Winchendon was forced to serve long balls all afternoon that the Rams had no problem cleaning up. Junior Tyler Hatch added his second of the game after some great pressure up front led to the ball finding his foot 12 yards out. Not to be out done, Freshman Jason Bogacz added to his early season tally with 2 back to back goals. One off of great wide feed from PG Ethan Howland and the second coming from a good individual effort that allowed to him to slide one by the Winchendon keeper. As time ran down the Rams would add their fifth and final goal when Bogacz fed senior Andrew Lim inside the 18 that gave Lim his first goal of his varsity career. When the final whistle blew, PG goalie Griffin Sperry recorded his first shutout as a Ram and the boys secured their first NEPSAC victory to move to 1-1-0 on the season. Coach Scott Ruggles and Coach Nic DeZenzo could not have been happier that their Rams not only netted 5 goals but stuck to game plan of focusing on defensive shape/pressure to secure their first shutout. Next up the Rams will open Lakes Region play as they host Vermont Academy this up and coming Wednesday. #RAMNation
