The Re-Light the Route Ceremony at the last remaining, still - TopicsExpress

The Re-Light the Route Ceremony at the last remaining, still operational, Whiting Bros. Gas Station on Route 66 was a success. Jace Alderson won the raffle to be the first person to light the neon lights in over 25 years. Made possible by the National Park Service, Route 66 Corridor Preservation Program Grant and support by our community and those that bought t-shirts and mugs to raise the in-kind portion of the grant. Owner Sal Lucero bought the station from the Whiting Bros. in 1985 and continued operating it since. He worked at the station for many years before purchasing it. Sal, now 77 doesnt sell gas anymore, he mostly repairs tires, replaces batteries and does minor repairs. He is loved and cherished by the community. Stop by and buy a t-shirt or souvenir to help keep the lights on. A special Thank you to Debbie Pogue for heading up this project through Barn Owl tenants and lightning strikes.
