The SJR State Athletic Association recently hosted its annual golf classic at the Palatka Municipal Golf Course. Two foursomes tied for first place. The foursome representing First Coast Community Credit Union - Scott Westney, Kyle Nail, Chris Bates and Troy McCoy – will share the winning title with participants Joyce Oliver, Steve Richter, Greg Bacon and Spanky Aaron. Second place foursome - Suresh Sunku, Ajay Vellore, Brad Rambo, and Peter Routsis. Third place foursome - Jason Reeves, Rodney Symonds, Mike Tucker, and Ron Whitehurst. Fourth place foursome - Lucas Bennett, Tanner Tipton, Keith Fleetwood, and Marty McCullough. Winning the putting contest and a Cobra driver and a TaylorMade putter was Greg Bacon. Players winning “closest to pin” was Ricky Dybbe (#3); Keith Fleetwood (#6); Terry Wright (#12); Ian Wilson (#14); and Copeland West (#16). Thanks to the participants, the 30 hole-sponsors and sponsors Georgia-Pacific, Seminole Electric, Oliver Oaks & Vines, and FROG - Florida Radiation Oncology Group, the athletic department will continue its recruiting efforts with additional funds for its three athletic programs. SJR State’s athletic programs are based on the Palatka campus and consist of men’s baseball, women’s fast-pitch softball and women’s volleyball.
