The Salute is a sign of significance within all military - TopicsExpress

The Salute is a sign of significance within all military organizations. Ive heard it was invented to show each person that they are not armed, therefore, a friend and not a foe. Of course it has evolved into a show or display of respect from a lower rank toward the higher. Enlisted personnel salute those who have attained a commission or have become officer rank. Enlisted do not salute enlisted. Lower rank officers salute higher rank officers. All officers return the salute which is rendered to them, both officer and enlisted. I saw the video of President Obama today, who saluted while holding a cup in his hand. I should now say, I supported him both time he was elected, and maybe that makes me a little biased. I once saluted a full bird colonel with a cigarette in my hand. Woops. I did not do this out of disrespect. I never would have done that. I did it because I was exiting a building and had my mind on other things and was caught off guard. I was corrected on the spot. You can rest assured I was corrected, and corrected well. I think, again, my opinion, some people need to chill over this silly thing. It is easy to make something out of nothing when you are not in that same position/moment/circumstance. I doubt from my depths that President Obama meant any disrespect and is embarrassed that it happened. All this is, however, my humble opinion but I plan on putting my efforts in something that is important and not to make something out of a simple fauxpaux. I think thats French for, WTF; Chill. Feel free to unfriend me.
