The Scott Memorial Fountain basin on Belle Isle has 120 new “neighbors” after volunteers spent last Friday continuing the beautification of the park. The Greening of Detroit, the DNR and 150 volunteers planted 120 cherry trees around the basin. The new, disease resistant, flowering cherry trees were planted to replace some previous trees that were near the basin after they died to disease and insects. Funding for the trees was part of a $150,000 U.S. Forest Service grant. The full story behind the tree planting can be found at bit.ly/1ERFsLI. #AllinforBelleIsle #MiDNR
