The Scottish independence referendum results showed that 51 percent of Scottish born voters, a majority, had backed Scottish independence at last Thursdays historic referendum. The analysis, conducted by polling company YouGov, also showed 74 percent of voters resident in Scotland when the referendum took place, but who had been born outside Scotland, had voted against Scottish independence. Anyone over the age of 16 years and resident in Scotland at the time of the referendum was eligible to vote. Scottish voters took part in a referendum on independence last Thursday (September 18) and opted by a margin of 55 percent to 45 percent (2,001,926 votes to 1,617,989) to remain part of the UK.
