The Sierra National Forest Organized Crews (OC) Wildland Firefighter Program, Formerly “Blue Card Crews”, will begin taking applications for Administratively Determined (AD) employment on Thursday January 2nd 2014 through Wednesday January 15th 2014. The application will consist of an SF-171 Application for Federal Employment. This application needs to hand delivered in a sealed envelope with their full name (Last, First, Middle) and their phone number (including the area code) written or typed in the upper left corner of the front of the envelope. The applicant can have someone else deliver the envelope for them if needed. (application PDF attached). They are to turn in their applications to the Sierra Emergency Command Center @ 2311 N. Clovis Ave, Fresno CA 93724 between the hours of 0730-1700. There is a phone in the entry room of the Sierra ECC and the applicant will dial 3046 and identify themselves with their first and last name and let the dispatcher know that they need to turn in their application for OC employment. You must reside within a 2 hr. radius of the Sierra ECC You must be 18 yrs. of age by March 22, 2013 The application needs to filled out in its entirety or it will not be considered. The applications will not be accepted after January 15th 2014 @ 1700 hours. Turning in the application does not guarantee placement in the OC program. It is only an application. The applications will be reviewed and if the applicant is chosen for an oral interview they will be notified utilizing the phone number they put on their application envelope. If the applicant fails to answer the phone a message will be relayed to whoever answers or left on their answering machine. The date and time the applicant was called will be noted in a call-back-log. If the applicant fails to call back within 48 hours their application will be discarded. If the applicant is chosen for placement on the OC program they will once again be contacted and given instructions on when and where to report to complete their hiring paperwork and take the Work Capacity Test at the arduous level. Pack test information FAQ attachment included. Passing the Work Capacity Test or Pack Test is a condition of hire. If they fail the pack test they will be disqualified for employment as an OC firefighter. Pack test consists of a 3-mile hike with 45-pound pack in 45 min.
