The Singapore Medical Councils disciplinary processes against - TopicsExpress

The Singapore Medical Councils disciplinary processes against errant doctors will be made more efficient and less time consuming. This comes after a review committee submitted its recommendations to improve internal processes and policies. The Singapore Medical Council or SMC says it will be stepping up training in medico-legal law for those involved in the medical disciplinary process. Its also assessing the feasibility of reducing the number of cases needed to set up a Complaints Committee. It has already made it compulsory for all parties involved in a case to have a Pre-Inquiry Conference to save time and costs, and raise any preliminary objections to the case. The SMC will also look into setting up an Independent Appeals Committee, which will be appointed by the government. Its also considering involving a Disciplinary Tribunal if its an appeal, and appointing a lawyer to all Disciplinary Tribunals to make the proceedings more efficient.
