The Star Interview [Bright sun – Lee Kikwang] TS: This is the second time I’m seeing Kikwang. Previously, to cover for Hot Brothers, I’ve visited the filming site. Kikwang: Ah, that time it was really during the early days of debut. I was a baby who didn’t know anything. It was a period when everything was (new and) sparkly. Now, time has flown past, and I’ve grown a little in height? (laughs) Time has fleeted, have I changed? TS: That time, the PD gave compliments to Kikwang. You worked hard, and more than anything, you did well without being discouraged. Between “you’ve worked hard” and “you’ve done well” which makes your mood better? KK: It would be good if there were both, but it’s hard to have both, in time to come, to have worked hard will help me. People who do well can become arrogant and not work for it, and those who work hard will work for it until whenever, so the latter seems to be a better/cooler person. TS: These days, you guys have been receiving #1 during the music programs right? Congratulations. Actually, I was thinking you guys have reached the ranks of the stars who can be hurt if you do not reach #1. KK: There’s no such think as being #1 all your life. If there is a winner, there will be a loser. As the years accumulate, please advise us that “Do not think of the current situation as a one you’ve done well and will continue on, the current popularity can also be at its best” from our surroundings. We will take on a more modest manner. TS: Then, where will BEAST’s peak be? KK: I think there are lots of steps/stairs left for BEAST. We can still go higher. TS: It’s good to see the greed to succeed. Then your character fits with your current style well. Especially your red hair – passion, isn’t it a symbol of fervor? KK: Rather than being silent and fixed to a place, I like to move about. A lifely and bright character. TS: How are you when you are in love? Are you the type who constantly goes along with your girlfriend, or respect each other’s individual time? KK: I think I’m half half. The girlfriend will have her own thoughts and I will have mine too. I don’t have the thoughts of both of us always having to see the same things. By tuning and adjusting for each other, that’s what truly a relationship/dating should be isn’t it. If you bend towards one side too much, you’ll get sick of it soon and may break up. It’s good to do everything in moderation. TS: You said your final goal is to be someone like Ronaldo? KK: I really like soccer a lot. I like to exercise, so if I didn’t become a singer, I would have become an athlete. Ronaldo or Messi, they are all-rounded players. This can sound stale but my dream is to become someone who si good at everything. These days, idols act, do musicals, go on varieties etc. and they are active on various platforms. I want to become someone who is able to do well at anything. TS: Then, in what aspects do you need to strengthen? KK: I’ll need to strengthen everything. Singing, dance, face, acting, variety etc. These days I’ve started learning composition. I wonder if I’ll be able to let the fans listen to them soon. TS: You’re in the 5th year since your debut. Just like the concept of the shoot today – relaxed composure – it’s a time you can feel this (relaxed composure) but similar it can be poison. Commonly referred to as the 5-year jinx of idol groups. Which side is Kikwang on? KK: There are such days recently. As for me, I think that as long as it is not overdone, composure/free time is needed. Humans need rest and work as well. To a certain extend, get some rest, find inner peace/stability and after that get engaged on stage – this will increase efficiency. TS: How about these days without rest? KK: Now is the period to run/move forward. When we are not doing activities, I received vocal lessons, learnt to compose and exercised. To me, that’s getting rest. TS: Now if you were to press the “LIKE” button for a member? KK: Doojoon. I don’t know his inner (self/being). He’s not the kind who has leadership, but he’s like a real leader. He knows how to talk/persuade people around. He’s a good kid. TS: Is there anything else you want to say? KK: I think I’m fine here. Everything in moderation. -nabi-
