The State Theatre announces auditions for 9/11 Tribute: The New Normal: A Spiritual Response in Words and Music This September 11 marks the 12th anniversary of the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center. To commemorate this world-changing event, The State Theatre will produce a musical revue titles The New Normal: A Spiritual Response in Words and Music written and directed by Artistic Director Richard Biever. The New Normal is a collection of stories, writings, and songs, combining spiritual writings and top-notch original and Broadway songs. The show brings to light a part of the story of 9/11 that is often emphasized. The show requires a cast of 5: 3 women and 2 men. See breakdown below. Please prepare a legit Broadway song to show range and quality of your voice. 16 bars is plenty. You’ll be asked to read from the script at the audition. An accompanist will be provided. Please bring sheet music in the appropriate key. Auditions will be held on Sunday, August 11 from 6:30-9:30 pm in The Attic at The State Theatre. Please contact Richard Biever for specific time slot. Must sing a high Bb and have an excellent blend for choral numbers. The role also requires strong acting. Featured songs include “Sabbath Prayer”, “Somewhere”, and “No One is Alone.” Woman 2 - Very strong mix and belt. Excellent blend for choral numbers. Sings 2nd soprano. Very strong actor. Featured numbers include: “Come Down from the Tree”, “Christmas Lullaby”, ability to riff. Woman of color preferred. Woman 3 - Very strong mix and belt. Excellent blend for choral numbers. Sings alto. Very strong actor. Featured solos include “Children Will Listen”, “in His eyes”, and “Travel.” Man 1 - Excellent high baritone/tenor. Excellent blend for choral numbers. Featured songs include “Sabbath Prayer”, “Morning Glow”, “No More”, and “No One is Alone.” Strong actor. Man 2 - Excellent bass/baritone and blend for choral numbers. Featured songs include “O Come Emmanuel”, “Travel”, “No One is Alone”, and “In a Moment.” Strong actor. Man of color preferred. Boy - Around 10-12 years old. Could look younger. Boy soprano range, but not too classical of a sound. Should be able to belt. Featured song: “Not While I’m Around.” Girl - Around 10-12. Comfortable singing to Eb (an octave above middle C) and some belting. The girl opens the show and onstage throughout much of the show. Featured song: “Not While I’m Around.”
