The Sunnah is to fast the 9th and 10th of Moharram. It is - TopicsExpress

The Sunnah is to fast the 9th and 10th of Moharram. It is Wednesday and Thursday in most of the world, if not in all of it. The eclipse of the sun only takes place at the end of the lunar month which always end up to be 30 days as the crescent can’t be sighted. The Prophet salla Allahu alaihi wa sallam fasted it when he was in Makkah and then fasted it when he migrated as well. We are encouraged to fast it because Allah saved Mosa, peace be upon him and the sons of Israel and drowned Pharos and his army. It is a happy occasion but we don’t innovate anything in it as the Prophet salla Allahu alaihi wa sallam only fasted it. This means no special prayers, no special duaa, no feasts, celebrations, buying new clothes or exchanging gifts. Fasting the 10th expiates the minor sins of a whole year. We are encouraged to fast most or all of the month of Moharram as it is the best month to fast after Ramadan. The weather now is beautiful [cold], the day is short and our minor and major sins are plenty. What is stopping you from fasting A’ashora? --Assim Alhakim InshaAllah, well arrange iftar for Thursday.
