Description The Swedish Institute for Social Research is hiring a postdoctoral researcher to its social policy unit. The units research program focuses on examining explanations of welfare state development as well as of the micro and macro level consequences of social policy programs. Central objects of study are the influence of political and economic factors on the institutional characteristics of social policy programs as well as the relationship between social policy design, socio-economic conditions, and individual life chances. Analyses are often conducted using a cross-national comparative perspective and quantitative research methods. Terms of employment The position is a two-year full-time appointment, starting as soon as possible. The position entails self-initiated research as well as research in collaboration with other members of the unit. Some advisory and administrative duties may also be included. Salaries at Stockholm University are set on an individual basis. Qualification requirements Applicants must hold a doctoral degree in sociology or a closely related discipline or have a comparable foreign degree. Assessment criteria Applicants should have obtained a doctoral degree no earlier than three years prior to the application deadline, unless there are extenuating circumstances. Such circumstances may include having been on sick leave, parental leave, leave to hold a position of trust in a trade union and the like. In filling the position, particular weight will be given to scientific expertise, experience in quantitative research methods as well as an ability to cooperate. Other information Competency in the Swedish language is not required at the time of appointment, we do however require that the applicant possess good English language skills.
