The Syrian Observatory fears ISIS recruitment of kidnapped Kurdish children to carry out suicide attacks: The ISIS kidnapped approximately 145 Kurdish elementary students on May 29 of the ongoing year. The children were kidnapped on the Aleppo-Minbej road while returning to the A’in al-A’rab (Kobani) city after completing their exams in regime-held areas of Aleppo city. The parents of some of the kidnapped children in the Kobani city along with some of the city’s residents expressed their concerns of ISIS recruitment of their children to carry out suicide attacks after subjecting them to Shari’a lessons and brainwashing them with fundamental principles. Especially after 5 students, who were able to flee from their kidnapers, told their parents that the ISIS offered them recruitment and gave them lessons of “Jihad and fighting the enemies of god and apostates”. The ISIS also kidnapped at least 193 Kurdish civilians on May 29 with ages ranging from 17 till 70 in the Qubasin town of Reef al-Bab city in Aleppo. The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights demands the immediate unconditional release of all Kurdish students and civilians. Any recruitment to the children is considered a participation in their death and is a crime punished by international law. The Syrian Observatory calls upon all fighting parties in Syria to stop recruiting children and to respect the rights of the Syrian children.
