The Transfer: A Divergent Story Released Today!! Posted by Summer on September 3, 2013 at 8:30pm If you don’t already know Veronica Roth’s first (of 4) short story about Tobias “Four” Eaton was released today! The first story in the 5 story series called The Transfer: A Divergent Story details the choice Tobias makes during his Choosing ceremony and why he chose Dauntless. We all know why Tobias chose Dauntless but the short story goes into more detail. It tells about the day of the simulation test and ends with his first hour at Dauntless Headquarters. (You can thank me later) The Initiate: A Divergent Story: Releases December 17, 2013 The Son: A Divergent Story: Releases January 21, 2014 The Traitor: A Divergent Story: Releases February 11, 2014 My Review ‘The Transfer’ starts with 16 year old Tobias Eaton, son of Marcus and Evelyn Eaton, awakening from his Faction Simulation test. He is exactly how I would be terrified. Luckily fan favorite Tori is with him upon awakening. Remember she can be with him because he was Abnegation. She questions his if he knew the simulation was real or fake. Unlike Tris he doesn’t realize that the simulation was real and tells her so. I believe that this is important to acknowledge due to the fact we don’t know that Tobias is Divergent until way into the first book. After the test he leaves in the opposite direction of his faction and into an alley. During this part Tobias meets a factionless man that points out Tobias looks a lot like his mother. I am glad Veronica included this because it helps out fan questions from Insurgent about Tobias’ knowledge of his mother and the fact she did not die like we were led to believe. We also get ot meet the ruthless Marcus Eaton and if his abuse of Tobias wasn’t real enough for you in Divergent and Insurgent that it gets VERY real in this short story. We find out he doesn’t trust his son and believes everything he says to be lies. We find out just how brutal Marcus can be and the things that led Tobias to run to Dauntless in the end. ‘The Transfer’ is one HELL of a ride. When I was done reading it I was left breathless and my mind begged for more. I loved the small bits of Eric and Tori and how Tobias was given the name Four.
