The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers participated alongside other federal, state and local government agencies and private entities in the recent Alaska Shield exercise that was sponsored by the State. Beginning on the 50th anniversary of the Good Friday Earthquake, the exercise replicated a similar incident with a 9.2 earthquake striking 70 miles east of Anchorage at 10:10 a.m. that lasted for five minutes. The Alaska District was immediately impacted and went into a response mode.
