The Uniting Church is offering to look after asylum seeker children without parents living on Christmas Island. About 30 children on the island are about to be sent to Nauru, the church says. The National Director of Uniting Justice, Elenie Poulos, says Nauru is an unsuitable place for children. We believe there is an alternative, and as a church we are standing ready, she said. We have an extensive network of organisations that are ready to take these children and we believe that that is the right thing to do.
