The WB Government had launched yesterday a new scheme “Kanyashree” for the upliftment of girl child. It was a historic day for the women of Bengal. The scheme aims to promote higher education and secure the future of our girl child and transform them to responsible women of tomorrow. Annual scholarship of Rs. 500 each was deposited to the accounts of ten thousand girl child between 13-18 years of age enrolled in Class VIII – XII in schools. One-time grant of Rs. 25000 will be provided to each of the unmarried girl student on attaining 18 years of age.
