The Wounds Ex 12:22 - And ye shall take a bunch of hyssop, and dip it in the blood that is in the bason, and strike the lintel and the two side posts with the blood that is in the bason; and none of you shall go out at the door of his house until the morning. Ex 12:23 - For the LORD will pass through to smite the Egyptians; and when he seeth the blood upon the lintel, and on the two side posts, the LORD will pass over the door, and will not suffer the destroyer to come in unto your houses to smite you.I Pe 2:24. Who his own self bore our sin in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sin, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes you were healed. The original Passover is celebrated to remember that the Lord delivered the Jews out of the bondage and slavery of Egypt. During the observance of Passover, all leavening would be removed from the home, because leavening represented sin. Leavening is what is used to cause bread dough to rise. It is interesting that the Egyptian word for leavening means spirit of the air. Jesus said that satan is the prince of the power of the air, the spirit of the air. So, the removal of leaven during Passover was to symbolize the removal of sin from ones life, which would include sweeping clean your home of satan and his sinful influence. The bread to be eaten to commemorate Passover is called Matzah, which is unleavened bread. In the days of the temple, people would make it on a griddle by baking dough that contained no leaven in it. They would make it into cakes then put it on the griddle to cook it. As they cooked it, they would take a pin or a nail and pierce the bread to make sure no leaven develops and the bread does not rise. The end result is that they would have a piece of bread that is striped from being on the griddle. If you were to hold a piece of matzah to a light or the flame of a candle, you can see there are holes all thru it where it has been pierced. And so the matzah is a picture of being without leaven, without sin. Ultimately, what the matzah represents is Jesus, who received stripes for our healing as recorded in Isaiah 53:5 and 1 Peter 2:24, and who was pierced as recorded in Psalms 22:16 and John 19:34, 37. Isaiah 53 and Psalms 22 are a picture of Jesus being crucified, pierced and beaten, hundreds of years before it happened. Isaiah 53 goes on to say that he was bruised for our iniquities, and the matzah bread appears to be bruised from where it was cooked on the griddle. Matthew 27:46 records that Jesus, from the cross, said, My God, my God, why have you forsaken me. He was refering back to Psalm 22, which speaks of his crucifixion, and prophecies they pierced my hands and my feet. The matzah is a perfect picture of the crucifixion of Jesus. Mic 5:1 Now gather thyself in troops, O daughter of troops: he hath laid siege against us: they shall smite the judge of Israel with a rod upon the cheek. 2 But thou, Bethlehem Ephratah, though thou be little among the thousands of Judah, yet out of thee shall he come forth unto me that is to be ruler in Israel; whose goings forth have been from of old, from everlasting. 3 Therefore will he give them up, until the time that she which travaileth hath brought forth: then the remnant of his brethren shall return unto the children of Israel. 4 And he shall stand and feed in the strength of the LORD, in the majesty of the name of the LORD his God; and they shall abide: for now shall he be great unto the ends of the earth. When Jesus took communion with his disciples to illustrate Passover, he told them, do this in remembrance of me. Up to that time, the Jews would observe Passover in remembrance of their deliverance from the slavery of Egypt. But, Jesus is instructing them to remember him when they observe Passover because he is the Deliverer from the spiritual bondage of sin. Ex 27:20 - And thou shalt command the children of Israel, that they bring thee pure oil olive beaten for the light, to cause the lamp to burn always. Re 1:12 - And I turned to see the voice that spake with me. And being turned, I saw seven golden candlesticks; Re 1:13 - And in the midst of the seven candlesticks one like unto the Son of man, clothed with a garment down to the foot, and girt about the paps with a golden girdle. Re 1:20 - The mystery of the seven stars which thou sawest in my right hand, and the seven golden candlesticks. The seven stars are the angels of the seven churches: and the seven candlesticks which thou sawest are the seven churches. Re 2:1 - Unto the angel of the church of Ephesus write; These things saith he that holdeth the seven stars in his right hand, who walketh in the midst of the seven golden candlesticks. Jesus is the olive oil beaten for the light, to cause the lamp to burn always. Jesus is in the midst of the seven candlesticks. Zechriah 12:9 And it shall come to pass in that day, that I (God Almighty) will seek to destroy all the nations that come against Jerusalem. 10 And I will pour upon the house of David, and upon the inhabitants of Jerusalem, the spirit of grace and of supplications: and they shall look upon me (God Almighty) whom they have pierced, and they shall mourn for him, as one mourneth for his only son, and shall be in bitterness for him, as one that is in bitterness for his firstborn. Revelation 1:7 Behold, he cometh with clouds; and every eye shall see him, and they also which pierced him: and all kindreds of the earth shall wail because of him. Even so, Amen.
