The action of Sen. Bongbong Marcos to suspend BBL hearing because of the Mamasapano tragedy where almost fifty (50) PNP SAF were killed due to the irresponsible decision by their superiors in commanding them to serve a warrant of arrest against a certain Marwan without observing the proper protocols as embodied in the Ceasefire Agreement between MILF and the government greatly imperils the negotiated peace agreement forged by MILF and the government. This tragedy is not new as it also happened in the past. For so long as we have stupid and incompetent leaders in whatever sector of our government, tragedy like in the instant case will always happen. The lapses on this dreadful operation is very basic which raises doubt as to its legitimacy. The $5M bounty for the capture of Marwan is another intriguing matter that only the superiors of the unfortunate PNP SAF officers who died in the name of duty can very well answer as to why the precious lives of these police officers were unnecessarily exposed to death. Therefore, the best move on the part of the government is to form a highly reputable panel of investigators to dig deeper on the issue and hold accountable all officers found guilty of incompetence and file appropriate criminal cases before the Ombudsman. Meantime, the Congress has to continue conducting its legislative task of passing the BBL and let the executive branch of the government perform its duty to pin down public officers who are involved in this tragedy. Otherwise, there will be no end to blood shed and the investment poured into peace negotiation will be put to naught.
