The aircraft carrier USS Ronald Reagan is currently anchored in Santa Barbara Bay. With all due respect to the Servicemen on that craft and visiting our town, I think they should be shown even more respect for daring to serve on that ship after the saga it and its crew went through while aiding Japan after the Fukushima nuclear catastrophe. Hundreds of sailors from that ship - most likely few of them in the current crew - are now suffering from various forms of radiation sickness - but are being denied adequate treatment by the Navy and government - so egregiously so that these outstanding patriots had to resort to suing their own government for more attention and assistance. Furthermore, the ship is not yet fully cleansed of radioactivity, so that the current crew members might still be getting more than average radiation exposure. So, if you encounter these Men In White on State Street, you may doubly thank them for their service - or rather maybe let it be, if you sense they understandably dont wish to be reminded of all of this while cruising SBs quaint shops and eateries....
