The analog to Irans view of American Islam is emerging in many other quarters as well (Russia, western Europe, and religious communities with roots abroad). Wherever this idea crops up in some variant or another, there is a growing opinion that American values and worldview transcend our domestic left/right paradigm and exist in the world as a pollution of justice and culture. American global power and influence will reign for a long time to come, but I think were catching a glimpse of what will eventually replace us. Inevitably the world will not reflect American attitudes, beliefs, or values anymore...be they conservative or liberal as we define those terms. The replacement may come sooner than we thought it would.
