The annual meeting of West Texas Historical Association (April 3-5 - TopicsExpress

The annual meeting of West Texas Historical Association (April 3-5 in Odessa, Texas) is shaping up to be a good one for Butterfield buffs. On the 3rd, Ill be leading a tour to two landmarks on the Butterfield/Goodnight-Loving Trail--Castle Gap and Horsehead Crossing on the Pecos. On the 5th, Ill present a PowerPoint slide program on the section of trail between the Middle Concho and Horsehead Crossing. This 79-mile segment--the longest dry stretch of any major trail in the 19th-century West--served as the setting for my novel To Hell or the Pecos (Texas Christian University Press). This is a reproduction of 1st Lt. Fred W. Smiths October 1867 map of the route. You can find more info about the tour and meeting at WTHAs website: swco.ttu.edu/WestTexas/index.htm
