The arrest or rather the invitation of Mr. Ruben Buhari by the - TopicsExpress

The arrest or rather the invitation of Mr. Ruben Buhari by the security agency at these times of fragile peace; though a routine security operation, is ill-timed, and worst, insensitive to the emotions of the peace loving people of southern Kaduna. Whatever the motive of the arrest, it should be noted that the southern Kaduna people are in this case the victims of this condemnable incessant annihilation of its innocent sons and daughters. Ironically, instead of the perpetrators of this deadly acts being arrested and taken to Abuja or wherever, it is the victims who in grieve are expressing their pain through platforms such as the on-line platforms that are arrested (or invited) and treated like outlaws. According to section 14 of the Nigerian constitution, it emphasizes that the purpose of government is the security and welfare of the people; while we are yet to see concrete steps being taken towards stopping the persistent attacks since 2011, which has consumed the innocent largely made up of the elderly, children and youths; with their houses and farm lands destroyed, the security of the southern kaduna people is still porous. The least we expect the security agencies to do is to keep on inviting innocent victims of this evil, this action in itself is inciting and provocative. While the youth of southern Kaduna youth have shown uncommon restraint and control; it should be seen that the security agency is consolidating on it rather than be seen in engaging in actions that suggest otherwise. Peace cannot be entrenched by the use or show of force or authority; it can only be achieved through justice, fairness, dialogue and reconciliation. We demand, as citizen with full rights as entrenched in the 1999 constitution, that Mr. Ruben Buhari be freed, because in the public court of opinion we have found him not guilty, even though the photos have the tendency to stir up emotions, but the truth is that with the atrocities happening in southern Kaduna, it doesn’t take the posting of gory photos to provoke reprisal. What we need now is the management of the unstable peace at our hands now; which we should work towards ensuring that it transmutes into durable and sustainable peace. What the ordinary man desires is an atmosphere of peace where he/she can sleep with two eyes closed, and engage in his/her economic activity without fear and intimidation. All actions or inactions must be seen to foster peaceful co-existence; we must calm the frayed nerves, by promoting and encouraging non-violent reactions (of which Mr. Ruben Buhari’s action is part of it), rather than violent reactions, while on the other hand the security agencies and the government should be seen addressing the security challenges that has continued to provoke the good people of southern Kaduna, by bringing to book the perpetrators of this evil acts. I desire to see a Kaduna state where peace would reign supreme; where we would be our brother’s keeper. A state where justice and fairness would be the other of the day; not a state where the victim is persecuted, while the guilty continues to perpetrate evil.
