The article below describes the latest archeological discoveries of war and political intrigue in the Maya. Wait a minute. My head is spinning. I thought imperialism was a white European incursion into the New World? Could we at least argue that the Maya were proto-Americans, which would help some to explain their need to dominate and rule? What about race and ethnicity? Until a few years back when we sharpened the ethnicity pencil "Hispanics", many of whom had Mayan or Aztec ancestry, were called whites. Why not claim the Maya were whites, or at least semi-white? Maybe we can find a glyph where they at least "self-describe" themselves so. Self-described, semi-white, proto-American, imperialist pigs.
