The article notes healthcare costs have tripled since 1980. Many ideologues have associated blame to this or that, offered up solutions to fix but strangely, never getting to the real costs driving up the costs. Instead of a larger pool of insureds, or redistribution of money to pay costs from one pocket to another pocket, here are some thoughts that would actually reduce costs. 1. Grant tax exemption to the healthcare industry, from doctors, hospitals, treatments, medicine, medical devices, etc. Health care has been imbedded with taxes, small and large at every level in the system. Taxes are a serious cost driver that get passed along over and over and only the government is the beneficiary. 2. Grant torte reform and protections to doctors, hospitals, healthcare workers, facilities, drug manufacturers that offer care and treatments. Health care providers pay billions in insurance coverage for wrongful or frivolous lawsuits. These embedded costs escalate and are passed through to the costs of the patient. This cost driver benefits the insurance companies and the government benefits by collecting taxes on the policies. 3. Grant national scholarships and grants to students entering the health care educational system and pathways. Allow graduating doctors and nurses, technicians to repay their student debt (often over 300,000 per doctor) with their service in the health care profession for twenty years. Educational cost is a staggering cost driver for doctors, nurses, technicians that is passed through to the patient. Educational relief for medical care providers is a huge benefit that lowers cost and will ensure the pipeline of new healthcare workers will be filled. If a serious health care reformation is to be achieved, these three ideas will be at the heart of true cost reductions. Redistribution of costs by its nature cannot reduce cost, only find another pocket to pay the bill. huffingtonpost/2013/11/12/health-care-costs_n_4256678.html?ref=topbar
