The author sounds like a nice, somewhat intelligent person and Id rather interact with Christians like them instead of the more bigoted adherents of the faith. I just cant get past the idea that there are rational people out there who think that Jesus is living and interacts with us on a daily basis. I know many good people who seem completely sane...yet they still believe that Jesus is actively guiding their lives. In my opinion, that idea is not rational in any sense. If one of my atheist friends declared that a deceased, possibly fictitious person was alive and interacting with them on a daily basis, I would call 911 because this individual would obviously not be in their right mind. I would worry that this person is a danger to themselves and others. When a religious friend makes the same claim, I just roll my eyes and shrug it off. Is this a double standard or is the situation more complex than that? As non-believers, is it our place to show concern for friends and loved ones who genuinely believe that a supernatural deity is interacting with them?...Or should we just accept this irrational belief as part of their identity as long as the individual is not using their faith to justify unethical behavior? Id really like to hear from all sides on this one. All opinions are welcome!
