The belief among elites in The Establishment has deep roots that go back to aristocracy and further back to early capitalism. They believe that without a powerful property owning centralised elite, maintaining institutions responsibly, and making wise decisions based on their wealth creating capital, the whole system will collapse. We know it would not, it would simply transform to a more equal peaceful and mature society. But they wont let go of the doctrine of power and control
