The best Cheap Trick LP in my opinion. Some perfectly crafted songs that are played correctly without any sort of overplaying. I think theres only a few guitar solos on here from guitarist/songwriter Rick Nielsen. Robin Zander was (and still is) a fantastic vocalist. And no one talks about that sick bass tone that Tom Peterson gets from his Hamers-through-Rickenbacker-bass-amp combo. Why? Between he and JJ Burnel from the Stranglers, they set the tone for distorted bass sounds to be exploited later on in the 80s and 90s. Plus how about their whole look? Hilarious and it worked! I still say that the studio version of I Want You To Want Me is way better than the live version on Budokon. The piano is great! Is this power pop? Is it glam rock? Does it matter? Its all good.
