Thats what San Beda should definitely and unarguably be distinguished for now that the Red Lions have captured their first-ever Philippine Collegiate Champions League championship by beating defending champion La Salle 73-66 to sweep their best-of-three title series, adding to their fifth straight NCAA championship they clinched barely a month ago. And the Red Lions did this without the graduated Semerad twins, Anthony and David, as well as team captain Kyle Pascual who have all joined the PBA. Ola Adeogun, the likeable 6-foot-8 center of the Lions who has a year of NCAA eligibility left, Art de la Cruz and Baser Amer powered the Red Lions to this historic title, sparking San Bedas comeback from an eight-point deficit in the third quarter and muzzling the Green Archers offense during the crucial stretch. Adeogun was adjudged as the MVP of the tournament as he averaged 19.5 points during the finals and anchored the Red Lions attack and defensive stand. The Red Lions milestone victory just came on the heels of their younger brother Red Cubs own distinction-stamping triumph in the Philippine Secondary Schools Basketball Championship with an 89-59 blowout of Xavier School in the finals, clinching their own first PSSBC title to cap a year when they won a sixth straight NCAA championship also just a month earlier. The Red Cubs, the winningest NCAA junior team with 21 championships, were led by Andrei Caracut and Chami Diputado, both members of the tournaments mythical team. Caracut emerged as the Finals MVP by topscoring for San Beda and also collecting 12 rebounds and four assists from the backcourt spot.
