The biggest influence on Saint Billy Graham was his father-in-law - TopicsExpress

The biggest influence on Saint Billy Graham was his father-in-law Lemuel Nelson Bell, MD. Nelson Bell was a member of the affluent right-wing missionary community that blamed the Democrats for losing China to the Chinese and became the base for rabid, paranoid Christian red-baiters like Billy James Hargis and Fred Schwartz in the opening years of the Cold War. Dr Bell was an advocate of Confederate Presbyterian theology who despised all things liberal. He founded an influential reactionary Presbyterian journal and carried his Fundamentalist beliefs to the New Evangelicals in the pages of Christianity Today, which he co- founded with Billys sugar daddy J Howard Pew of Sun Oil Pew was a key member of the John Birch Society. Dr Bell was also a Bircher, head wingnut of the Asheville NC JBS chapter. ncpedia.org/biography/bell-lemuel-nelson
