The book titled, Muslim Politics in Bihar: Changing Contours, has been written by DrMohammad Sajjad, Assistant Professor in the Centre of Advanced Study, Department of History, Aligarh Muslim University, Aligarh. The book has widely covered the Muslim politics of Bihar since 1800 AD to till date which have divided into six chapters 1. Community Consciousness: An Overview of Muslims in Bihar Politics until 1940. It has been analysed that in the first half of nineteenth century, Bihar was the centre of Wahabi Movement which played vital role for the community consciousness among Muslims. Later the Aligarh Movement also played important role for the awareness of the Muslims so, many Modern educational institutions have been founded in Bihar viz; Salfina Madrasa(Darbhanga,Shams-ul Ulema (Patna) etc. The Muslims also took their education from Calcutta and they joined hand with Kayastha in the Movement of creation of Bihar. Some eminent Muslim leaders such as Ali Imam, Hasan Imam, Mazharul Haq and Fakhruddin fought jointly for a separate province of Bihar. A large chunk of Muslim also participated in the Champaran Satyagraha, the Non-Cooperation Movement and the Civil-Disobedience Movement. Til 1946, the Muslim League did not have its mass base in the province so, in the election of 1937, the Muslims of Bihar did not have any concern with Jinnah and his League.Mostly Bihari Muslims voted to the Muslims Independent Party (which leader Mohd Yunus became the first chief Minister of Bihar in 1937), the Momin Conference and the Congress. After the election of 1937, the Muslim League made some organizational and ideological headway in Bihar and after the riot of 1946, the Muslim League created its strong base among Muslims specially in Ashraf Muslims(the Lower caste Muslims were totally against of separate country {Pakistan}, so, here i want to express my personal opinion that lower caste Muslim which consisted 80 percent of total Muslim population didnt accept the Leagues proposal of Pakistan, it means 20 percent of Muslims{Ashraf} were in the favour of partition, then how can say all Muslims were responsible for the partition of the country). 2. The Polarizing Texture of Bihar Politics:A Survey till 1940. In this chapter , it has been highlighted that the communalism spread in the late nineteenth century in the Bihar. The Gaurakshini Sabhas, Cow Sacrifices, Sudhi Movement, Music before Mosques, Rath Yatras were the main components of the communal violence. The Hindu Mahasabha and the Muslim League played the crucial role for the spread of communal tension in the province. Conti----
