The bottom half of the link below (to a blog post) is in English but its a post that needs to be read. It exposes the problem in Denmark currently with copycat companies. This goes on all over the world (of course), even in Germany stores are copying designs from other companies. A German home/fashion chain near my house is always heavily inspired by some brand, from Jonathan Adler to Cath Kidston and Ferm Living, and their products come dangerously close to be one-to-one copies. Its sad but also true. I know companies that take designs from others and use them and when they get caught, just offer the original designer a small shut up fee and 4-6% of sales. Something they would have offered in the first place. So why dont they just offer it in the first place? Because the number of designers who would lawyer up and have the courage to talk to these companies is fewer than having to pay all of the designers up front that they copy. Sad truth. This is a really good blog post. I hope you enjoy reading it too. bungalow5.dk/thursday-talks-2/
