The breathtakingly beautiful town Bomdila is the headquarter of the West Kameng district in Arunachal Pradesh which is located in 3,500 metres height, perched over a wide ridge that straddles a mountain in the Himalayan ranges, a lofty heaven on earth. The region is a dream summertime destination as it remains snowbound for a major part of the year. The tiny town presents a panoramic view of the snow covered peaks and the picturesque Kameng valley with its apple orchards. Bomdila View Point provides magnanimous view of entire West Kameng Valley. From the highest point of this place, tourists can also enjoy beautiful views of clouds congregated at the top of the Nechipu Pass. R.R Hill, the highest point at Bomdila, is also one of the major tourist attractions of the region. From this place, tourists can see the road leading to Tawang along with the one that leads to Bhutan. Bomdila Monastery, constructed by 12th reincarnate of Tsona Gontse Rinpoche is one of the most famous attractions of Bomdila. Inaugurated in 1965, this monastery is abode to Buddhist Monks and Lamas. Popularly known as the Gentse Gaden Rabgyel Ling monastery, this monastery belongs to Mahayana Buddhism. A huge prayer hall was added later to this monastery. In addition, the monastery also houses a beautiful Buddha temple, which is another main attraction. Lower Gompa, based at the end of Bazaar Street, is situated in the middle of the town. Tourists visiting the lower gompa can see beautiful Tibetan architecture and huge prayer hall located inside this gompa.Middle Gompa is situated at a distance of approximately 2 km from the main market. This gompa houses the Blue Medicine Buddha, on which healers focus their prayers as well as meditations. One of the oldest gompas of all the three. Upper Gompa, also renowned as the Gentse Gaden Rabgyel Ling Monastery, is located on a steep hill. This gompa houses a school for monk kids, a prayer hall and a temple of Lord Buddha. In addition, this gompa entices several tourists every year because it portrays various shades of life and traditions of Buddhism. Photography is not allowed inside any of the gompas. Craft Centre & Ethnographic Museum, located opposite to Lower Gompa, is one of the major attractions in Bomdila. Tourists visiting this centre can see wide variety of carpets, Buddhist Thangkas (wall hangings) and handicrafts along with masks crafted by locals. In addition, the centre is famous among tourists for its dragon design carpets as well.
