The choice of Paula Bennett for Local Government may go unrecognised for its significance, because of the common media and Wellington snobbery about local government. In fact it is where political initiative and incentives can and should allow politicians to do best what they all claim to want to do, that is make a difference. Is there a possibility that she could do for that sector what Tony Ryall did for Health? New Zealand has grave local government problems.
