The common house now looks a little more like a mad scientists lab - TopicsExpress

The common house now looks a little more like a mad scientists lab or a hillbilly distillery because Ive hooked up the rocket stove to heat the water in the hot water tank. I tested it last night and its working great! Its very low tech with few moving parts and no pump. The coolest water is in the bottom of the hot water tank, and that water feeds into the bottom of the coils around the rocket stove. As the water heats up it gets lighter and moves up through the coils and back into the top of the water tank in a process known as a thermosiphon. The drain faucet at the bottom is used to clean out the coil system in the summers when I use the solar hot water panel instead. I have the faucet aimed right at the burn pit so in the unlikely case that it needed to be extinguished in a hurry just a simple turn of a valve would do it.
