The community around Dungeons & Dragons can be acrimonious. Players take sides on everything: Arneson versus Gygax ... There are lots of debates in the tabletop RPG community. This is not one Ive seen in my active life in the business (it may have existed prior to the early 90s when I transitioned from being a player to being a publisher). Does anyone really think there is an Arneson v Gygax debate? My feeling was that Arneson was the forgotten father for a long time, and Peter Adkison made sure he was restored to his proper place in the public view of the game, but nobody I know of thinks theres any sides. (There may be folks who have issues with old business deals but thats aside from the communitys perception of the matter). My sense is that most (Id say everyone but that just guarantees one person will chime in and be the naysayer) people today see D&D as a joint creative work of Arneson and Gygax.
