The cool weather will gradually recede to normal temperatures, but hot weather is not in the forecast. Cooler weather for the next couple of days will gradually moderate to near normal temperatures for the weekend as a continental-scale cyclone churning cool damp air with some showers across the eastern half of North America slowly decays. Wednesday will see an area of clouds and showers spread southeastward as far as the central counties of Pennsylvania with the southeast remaining partly sunny. Thursday looks breezy with a mixture of clouds, sunshine and a few sprinkles. By Friday, a frontal zone along the coast will move northward affecting the entire state through Sunday with lots of clouds and showers, but also some sunny intervals. Drier air finally breaks through late on Sunday bringing more pleasant weather through Tuesday with seasonably warm temperatures in the 70s and 80s. Another push of cooler air, however, will approach from the north on Tuesday or Wednesday with a few scattered showers and then cooler weather for the latter part of next week once again. Through this Sunday, August 3, rainfall is expected to accumulate approximately 0.75 in many sections of the state, although the north-central counties will see less than other sections. This continues a pattern of dryness for counties surrounding Tioga county which have received only 50-75% of normal rainfall during the past 30 days. Art Person, Department of Meteorology
