The current cost of keeping all the toilets open in Portsmouth - TopicsExpress

The current cost of keeping all the toilets open in Portsmouth would be around £500,000 per year. The cost of installing charging equipment at all the loos would be about another £500,000. Even if we ignore all of the additional costs incurred by running charging toilets (man hours to collect income, increased cleaning frequency required, maintenance costs of charging equipment etc) this means that it would cost more than £1 million to keep all of the loos open next year. Evidence from the British Toilet Association shows that charging even 20p for a toilet results in a 50% decrease in users... so hands up who wants to pay £1 a time (or potentially even more) to use a public toilet?
