The day before yesterday I set up a thunderclap campaign as a way to accomplish my goal of dancing on the Ellen show with Brandon White. Based on some feedback I got, I thought it best to clarify some issues. Thunderclap is a crowd sharing network that helps people to share ideas. If enough people support a campaign, thunderclap will post the idea on the pages of all who supported it so that all their friends will see it. Supporting the campaign is no different than you manually posting something to your Facebook wall for all your friends to see. Thunderclap takes no private information. They only post on Facebook, Twitter, or Tumblr in order to spread the word of campaigns they previously approved. I just wanted to explain so there was no continued confusion. This is the message I send to people individually: Many people know that I have wanted to dance on the Ellen Degeneres Show for a couple of years now. Dancing has made a huge difference in my life and redefined in my head what is possible for me to accomplish. I don’t want to dance on Ellen simply to be on national television. There are reasons that I consider far more important. I sincerely believe that one of my purposes in life is to do my small part to raise disability awareness and challenge negative perceptions about those affected by disability. I feel that this is what I was born to do. Back in February I created a Facebook page called Help Lorraine and Brandon dance on the Ellen Degeneres Show. I know it will take hundreds of thousands of people “liking” that page in order to catch the attention of the show’s producers. To that end, I set up a thunderclap campaign a few weeks ago in order to get the word out to as many people as possible. That campaign didn’t quite produce the results I was hoping for. So yesterday I started another thunderclap campaign. I am asking all my friends to go to https://thunderclap.it/projects/19345-wheelchair-dancer-on-ellen and keep clicking yes on the red tabs until you get a message that says you supported the campaign. Also, if you are so inclined, please encourage your friends to do the same. The desire of my heart is to show what people with disabilities CAN do. Thanks! Have a SPECTACULAR day!
