The dream of ‘Naya Pakistan’ must stay generous in accommodating the believers of different religions. It should promote the religious patience among the people at large. It must respect the idea that religion is a private matter, and may be the source of consolation for the different desperate souls. It needs to be respected like any social relation. All the ill-wills existing in the name of the religion need to be discouraged. The dream must bless the people with social justice, equal treatment of both genders and equal opportunities for all without any discrimination on the basis of caste, creed and beliefs. Indeed, if it is so then I am sure we are on track to a ‘Welfare State’. But, if the aim and meaning of the dream is the continuation of old policies giving full authority and power to non-state actors to operate wherever they want; leaving the religion open for the exploitation to the religious fanatics; observing silence over the killing of innocent people everywhere including at school, colleges, universities and even in mosques; open violation of merit everywhere for the sake of nepotism; maintaining existing rifts among the people at large due to several existing factors; keeping alive the discriminations existing in the social, cultural, religious and academic life of the inhabitants, then it can’t be a dream, but indeed a ‘horrible nightmare’, which everyone one of us is passing through every day, every night and even every hour.
