The first YouTube Music Awards took place on Sunday night at Pier - TopicsExpress

The first YouTube Music Awards took place on Sunday night at Pier 36 in Manhattan, New York and was streamed live over YouTube. Hosted by Jason Schwartzman and Reggie Watts, performers like Eminem, Lady Gaga, and Arcade Fire took to the stage for “live music video” performances. Google, which owns You Tube and has a market capitalization of about $340 billion, put on an awards show that seemed to pull inspiration from the circus, high school talent shows, and cg-heavy movies. Apparently the show was of no consequence and awards meant nothing really. It was basically a counter-professional production put on by pros. Spike Jonze was at the helm of it all as Creative Director. “The whole spirit of this thing is to be in over your head.” said Jason Schwartzman, who a few minutes into the live awards show reassured viewers, “I’ve never hosted anything in my life.”
