The first rule means a lot Always show respect to your instructors, training partners, and fellow human beings. Respect in training means: do not seek to harm fellow students physically or emotionally . Respect also means that you must train seriously and hard enough for you and your partner to improve his or her skills, conditioning, and fighting spirit. Not giving your best during training detracts from both you and your partner’s experience. Ok lets narrow it down to a bit of Winglish ( thats my Welsh and English ) So we shake hands and bump fists because we are all friends on the mat knowing quite well Im going to try and tap this guy and visa versa. We should be aware that when putting a submission on I should watch my training partners reactions. A raised hand is a hand ready to tap. Dont wait until the submission hurts to tap just do it and if you see your training partner is not escaping or his hand is raised ready please agree that the job was done. Its important we know most submissions form the start because as we progress and get graded we need to know how to put them on and how to escape. There is no point waiting until Purple Belt to Learn Foot Locks. But you need to Master the defence and how to attack the arms and choke holds to get to this grade. Its important we push eachother safely to progress, I personally ow a submission and tap to Stuart Duffy he had my leg I waited and escaped but my calf was jacked and I limped home, This was my choice at the time not to tap and escape but i paid the price whilst pushing myself. Lee Spartan Blundell had an ankle lock which I ow a tap for last week. Same I made the choice to risk the escape. We will learn the escapes guys but while sparring its our responsibility to keep each other safe yet achieve these submissions. If we dont get close to them we arent practising properly. If a guy is good agree before you start to roll no leg or knee locks, or just hold and let go then start again on your knees. Sometimes the verbal submission or TAP TAP is best if someone is in The Zone I do watch with an Eagles eye and maybe some things slip, any obvious foul play on the mat isnt acceptable and we have a really good Academy and I intend to keep it this way.I hope you all agree and are ready for 2015.
