The first song I heard as my buddies and I stepped foot into our watering hole was the Chinese version of Akai Suiren (Red Water Lilies). As I prefer to listen to the original Japanese version and as the singer on stage was committing murder to this beautiful song, I put on my earphones and searched YouTube. I am delighted to find this clip from an old movie with the theme song sung by my favorite of favorites, Li Xianglan (Rikoran) aka Yoshiko Yamaguchi who also acted in the movie. Just listening to her sweet clear voice backed by melodious tempo and watching those familiar old Beijing sceneries of the Temple of Heaven, Forbidden Palace, and Summer Palace, I find myself transported back to another place, another era. So much nostalgia. I am glad all those places and relics have been well preserved till today.
