The first step in Defunding Obamacare is now underway due to TEA Party and liberty group actions across the country. Speaker Boehner announced that the House will vote to pass Rep. Graves bill to strip Obamacare funding from the Continuing Resolution (CR) or, at least, cause a one year delay. Many folks think that this is wasted effort; that the Senate will simply put the funding back in. Consider these points: (1) The large D-supporting unions are publicly complaining that Obamacare is destroying the 40-hour workweek and union-negotiated “gold-plated” health care plans paid by the employer; (2) The White House announced there is no “exemption” legally available to protect the union health care plans or provide a subsidy; (3) The CR now puts ending or, at least, delaying Obamacare into the hands of the Senate D’s whom the large unions can now influence to save the 40-hour workweek and their health care plans; (4) If the Senate opens the CR to amendments to return funding for Obamacare, then Senator Vitter’s amendment to cancel the OPM ruling providing a subsidy for Congress will likely be made, forcing D Senators to vote to exempt themselves from Obamacare if funding is restored; and, (5) the TEA Party and conservative R’s in the House, rather than being “bad guys” forcing a government shutdown, are now rescuing American unions, American workers and, even, Congress, not to mention, the rest of America, from the impact of Obamacare. These considerations would appear to make this more than a futile political gesture. These may bring success. ~ Mike Snead
