Starting in July, 2014; Keebler will be changing the allergen statement on two flavors of cookies under the Keebler® label. The flavors, Keebler® Soft Batch® cookies and Keebler® Chips Deluxe® Soft ‘N Chewy cookies will contain Egg, Wheat, Milk, and Soy, May Contain Peanuts and Tree Nuts. No other Keebler cookies will be impacted by the allergen composition of these cookies. Based upon the latest bulletin from the US Dept of Agriculture, the harvest of the Chodosh oats crop is entering its 3rd week. The harvest of the Chodosh wheat and barley crops have not yet started. The following are advanced estimates of the PURCHASE dates when items may start being Chodosh. These dates are subject to change. Oats in Quaker cereals September 1 Oats in most other cereals September 15 Oats in Cheerios and other General Mills cereals October 1 Freshly baked wheat products such as breads, challahs, bagels, pizza August 15 in the Mid West, August 22 in the rest of the US. As of this week 11% of the new oats have been harvested. Based on the experience of previous years, most of the new, Chodosh oats should not reach the cereals until September or later. This is to be confirmed for this year. The spring wheat and barley harvests have not yet begun. GoMacro, of Viola, Wis., is recalling MARCOBARS brand almond butter + carob lots 1634 and 1645 and sunflower butter + chocolate lot 1646, because they have the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella. GoMacro was notified on July 23 by its supplier of carob powder, an ingredient in the company’s almond butter + carob bars, that one of their customers received a positive test for Salmonella. In the interest of abundant caution, GoMacro is voluntarily recalling lot 1646 of sunflower butter + chocolate because it was produced on the same line after lots 1634 and 1645. These MacroBars were distributed across the country and internationally via retail stores, mail order and direct delivery. Affected MacroBars will be clearly marked as either almond butter + carob with lot numbers 1634 (expiration 10 Mar 15) or 1645 (expiration 18 Mar 15) or sunflower butter + chocolate lot 1646 (expiration 18 Mar 15) and in a foil wrapper. The carob powder supplier has ceased the production and distribution of this product. Consumers who have purchased this product are urged to return them to the place of purchase for a full refund.
